Welcome to
Department of Social Services
The primary objective of the Department of Social Services is to make marginalized and disadvantaged communities active stakeholders of national development by addressing the problems faced by them while enabling them to be self-reliant. In order to attain this objective, the Department formulates policies and implements research and development programmes from the national to grass-root levels. Included in a host of activities targeting the disabled community conducted by the Department of Social Services are the provision of vocational training, social integration and minimizing social problems encountered by such communities and the Department has also launched a programme for the residential rehabilitation of persons addicted to drugs.
What we do in here
Community Base Rehabilitation Programme
The main objective of this program is to rehabilitate persons with disabilities domestically and integrate them into society providing relevant services.
Vocational
Training
If you are a young person between 16 to 35 years of age with any impairment of hearing, speech, visually handicapped, intellectually or physically challenged, our objective is to help you in integrating in to the society as a dignified citizen.
Early Childhood Development
If your child is having a disorder or retardation in his/her growth or having any disability identified at birth or in childhood, our institution is ready to warmly welcome them into our folds.
Care for mentally retarded children
One of the core areas of the services of the Department is to provide care and shelter for intellectually impaired and vulnerable children who are without parents or guardians.
Visually Impaired Rehabilitation Trust Fund
This fund functions to serve, rehabilitate and provide necessary relief for the visually impaired persons.
Sign Language
Interpretation Service
A well versed team of sign interpreters attached to the Department are at service in all times to help hearing and speech impaired individuals to communicate with society in general and facilitate them.
Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts
We assist in rehabilitating, if you, one of your family members or close associates are addicted to drugs, improving your vocational skills and integrating you into the society.

There, together with all the vocational training institutes under the Department of Social Services, after 05 years at Amunakumbura Vocational Training Institute on 01.08.2024 in a grand manner. "Sith Roo" national festival was held.
