There are 389077 hearing impaired persons and 180833 persons with communication difficulties due to the census done in year 2012. Sign language is the only medium of communicating all of them to provide them with educational, social, cultural as well as medical and legal services. 

This sign language has been accepted by the board of cabinet as policy decision.

At present, six sign language interpreters are serving attached to the department. Assistance can be taken from them for the communication of the hearing impaired persons in government institutions.

The service of sign language interpreters is applied for the communication of the hearing impaired persons on demand as well as in the police stations, hospitals, courts and other government institutions

The sign language interpreters’ service has been applied for the National Rupawahini cooperation for the main news telecast at 8.00 pm. aiming the whole hearing impaired community of the country to understand easily and for other private media on demand.
