Social services department inaugurated a pilot program based on Colombo district in 2003 to full fill the need of a national program for the development of the early childhood of the children who are handicapped in different ways in Sri Lanka, and the program is conducted centralizing the Child guidance center, no. 11, Wela Road, Maharagama

Aims of the Project

  1. Introducing a more effective way to understanding the child’s difficulties at early stages and influence
  2. Strengthening the service network including the institutions of different fields who serve the handicapped children
  3. Intervention to develop handicapped children’s early childhood and education
  4. Intervention to develop the members of the families’ and parents’ mentalities
  5. Introducing the program for other districts.

Below mentioned facilities are offered to your child at early childhood develop centers.

  1. Individual, Small scale Group or group classes are conduct for the handicapped children
  2. Providing the services of physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist.
  • Conducting training programs for teachers aiming children with special needs in primary section.
  1. Conducting programs to develop the mentalities of the parents.
  2. Providing counseling services and health clinics.
  3. Educational and fun tours

Mentally retarded or intellectually impaired children who lost parents and guardians are looked after and rehabilitated with good care love and protection for life time and accommodation, food and medical facilities are given for free.
